Maddie Smith

Maddie lives in Kittery, Maine, and is a PhD student at the University of New Hampshire and Graduate Communications Assistant for the Natural Resources and Earth Systems Sciences program. She is passionate about the outdoors, and learning and helping others find ways to enjoy being outside. On the note of teaching others, Maddie says “I think it is important to be patient with people when they are learning something new. We were all beginners at some point in our life.”

Cool fact about Maddie: She surfs year-round in Maine and she loves the feeling of walking on sand, covered in snow!

What is community science? Why join CSO?

According to Maddie [community science] can be summarized in a simple way: “Science by the people, for the people.” (We might steal that for a future slogan….)

There’s a quote by Margaret Mead that Maddie shares with us and it reads “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Love it!
