Colin Meyer
Colin lives in Lyme, New Hampshire. He is an assistant professor at Dartmouth College working on snow and ice processes. He develops mathematical models, performs experiments in a cold-room facility, and makes field measurements at Helheim glacier, Greenland. When winter comes, he can be found trying to ski the tightest trees imaginable and skinning up groomers at the Dartmouth Skiway. He loves skiing, mountain biking, enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, asymptotics, scaling, and PDEs (Partial Differential Equations). He thinks it’s important to “never trade a day in the office for a day in the mountains”, to write equations nondimensionally, and to come back uninjured from every adventure. Every day, he tries to remind himself about breathing deeply, drinking water, and marveling at the universe.
What is community science? Why join CSO?
Colin had participated in CSO for several years before joining as an ambassador. He was so ambitious that he even won a data collection contest, and placed top 5 in at least one other! To Colin, it is a fun activity to do on the skin track, he adds “it helps the science tremendously, and I feel closer to the snow by learning about it.” What does the term [community science] mean to Colin though? He puts it simply “let’s all do it together”.
