Measuring Snow – It’s Easy!

Measuring snow depth takes only a few minutes out of your adventure. You’ll become part of a growing community of observers, and you will have an opportunity to understand more about the snowpack and its variability in the areas that you frequent.

What you need

Snow Probe

Intensive Observations

We conducted an intensive campaign for citizen-science snow observations in Thompson Pass, near Valdez, Alaska, on March 18, 2017.  Several project scientists and leaders were available to answer your questions and lead the day-long measurement efforts.

The collected measurements provided validation for existing hydrological models. When complete, we’ll post our results to the website so you can see what all the hard work was about!
