Backcountry users! Snow is good; snow + science is better, and snow + science + swag is best! To help celebrate the return of snow to much of North America, the Community Snow Observations (CSO; communitysnowobs.org) project is holding a New Year’s Data Drive from December 15 through January 15. We are looking for new and returning citizen scientists to submit as many snow depth measurements as possible. Our website has all the details on how to participate in the CSO project. All it takes is a measuring device (your avy probe!), a phone (Mtn Hub app), and a minute of time. Our friends at Mammut and Mizu have generously contributed gear to this effort, so in addition to contributing data to our ongoing snow science efforts, your measurements could land you a new pack, probe, shovel, or insulated hydration bottle. Send any questions to firstname.lastname@example.org, follow project developments at our website or on our social media (@communitysnowobs), and view your submitted data at app.communitysnowobs.org. Have a great and safe start to the season!
