The Community Snow Observations (CSO; communitysnowobs.org; @communitysnowobs) project will be at Wild Corn this year, sharing with the backcountry community the hows and whys of becoming a snow citizen scientist. With nothing more than your phone and a measuring stick (you’re all carrying your avalanche probes in the backcountry, right?) you can quickly and easily submit snow depth data that gets incorporated into snowpack models. These data help the CSO team do a better job of modeling the distribution of snow in winter environments. Stop by for some demos, swag, and friendly contests. To most easily participate, show up to Wild Corn with the Mountain Hub (available for iOS and Android) app pre-installed on your phone and with an account already set up on Mountain Hub. Whether your snow is steep or deep on your next backcountry tour, tell CSO about it!
